Ofentse eyes Miss World SA crown

“I always thought modelling was about parading on stage and being criticised," Selatole.

Kwa-Thema – Walking on a runway and owning the stage is what Ofentse Selatole has perfected over the years, whether competing in Miss Teen Social Entrepreneur South Africa or running for Miss World South Africa.

Although initially not interested in modelling, she won Miss Teen Social Entrepreneur South Africa in 2021 and Miss David Webster in 2021.

The 20-year-old said she changed her mind after meeting Itumeleng Kwinana at a God’s Girl Mentorship, who encouraged her to try her luck in pageants.

“I always thought modelling was about parading on stage and being criticised, but that was until I met Itumeleng, who encouraged me to join modelling.

“I joined Miss David Webster in 2022 and won. I am still the reigning queen and a chairperson of the residence,” said the model.

She drew her inspiration from Zozibini Tunzi’s speech in 2019 when she said young women should take space in society.

She will compete in Miss World South Africa in Gauteng in October. There, the winner will compete in Miss World in India in December.

The model said she was a mentor in the God’s Girl campaign and designed a colouring book for Grades R to Seven, which is the extension of the My Beauty with a Purpose campaign for Miss World South Africa.

“I want to share my testimony with everyone in the mentorship programme. I did not think I would get this far in my modelling career because I started only trying my luck, but I am grateful for the achievements so far,” said Ofentse.

In an interview with African Reporter, the model said she aimed to be tangible evidence to her peers that you can do anything you put your mind to.

Ofentse said since she joined the modelling industry, it shed light on some community ills she was unaware of.

She studies fine arts at Wits University and is part of the leadership programme at the David Webster residence.
