Load-shedding affects efficiency at Kwa-Thema Police Station

“The bell doesn’t work during load-shedding, but we encourage residents to use the small gate at night to access the station.”

Kwa-Thema – The residents of Kwa-Thema have complained about the efficiency of the police station in recent months.

This is due to the station closing its gate at night, preventing complainants from entering the facility to lodge their grievances.

Kwa-Thema SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Magudulela said despite the police gate being closed during the night for safety, residents who need help are encouraged to ring the bell at the main gate.

“The bell doesn’t work during load-shedding, but we encourage residents to use the small gate at night to access the station,” he said.

Magudulela added that during load-shedding at night, officers were forced to take statements and do other administrative work from their cars.

“Our generator, fitted many years ago when the station was built, often breaks down. Sometimes, even three days after it was repaired and the procurement process can be lengthy,” he said.

Magudulela said when they have load-shedding during the day, the generator can only be on for an hour to reserve power for the night’s scheduled power cut. Only certain sections of the stations are powered.
