Skhulu’s Kitchen donated pads to three schools on Friday

Three schools received three boxes each of sanitary pads.

Kwa-Thema – Skhulu’s Kitchen representatives with Ward 77 Clr Thulane Dunjana and Ward 74 committee member responsible for women and children, Noluthando Dikwa drove around and donated pads in three schools on Friday.

This came after the eatery hosted a fun walk on April 27 where participants donated sanitary pads as an entrance to the walk. The three schools, Nkumbulo, Kwa-Thema Skills and Lefa-Ifa received three boxes each.

The donation started at Nkumbulo where the deputy principal, Pule Moeketsane and the administrator, Grace Mothibe received the donation on behalf of the school.

Moeketsane said they appreciate the donation and that the gesture doesn’t go unnoticed.

Nkumbulo Secondary School deputy principal and administrator received the pads on behalf of the school.

The drive then took the collective to the Kwa-Thema Skills School where the School Based Support Team (SBST) members, Sophie Tandiwe Sibeko, Valerie Magoshi and Sister Matebogo Maphothoma received the donation on behalf of the school.

Sibeko said, “This came at a time when we needed the sanitary pads.

“Our learners appreciate the donations.”

She said that there are about 15 learners who need school shoes and would appreciate a donation of such.

Lefa-Ifa was also represented by the SBST coordinator, Khabo Ncube who said it is as if the eatery was sent by God as they currently don’t have sanitary pads.

“When I was told people are looking for me, I was with a learner in my office who came to ask for pads and I was about to disappoint her saying we’ve run out.

“Thank you very much as this will help a lot of our learners,” Ncube said.

Ncube said the school has been having a problem of thuggery that ends in the necessary recipients not being able to receive what’s meant for them.

“Whenever we get donations, we come back to school the following day with the donations having disappeared and no one can answer as to what happened.

SBST members at Kwa-Thema School are happy for the donations and are in need of school shoes.

“We have, however, come up with measures that our recipients get what’s meant for them on the day of the donation,” she said.

Skhulu’s mother, Nokhaya Mjoli said they have been willing to make these donations and she’s glad this day finally came.

“We are also grateful to the people who were present at the fun walk, the feedback was positive,” Mjoli said.

Among those who were making donations were the eatery’s owner Skhulu Mjoli, one of the fun walk’s organisers Lungile Jele, Skhulu’s sister Ntswaki Mjoli and a Ward 77 community member Refiloe Mashiloane.
