Members of the community encouraged to comment on policies

Comment on the child care centre and spaza shop policies by April 30.

Kwatsaduza – The City of Ekurhuleni has concluded public participation meetings to get comments on the draft childcare centre and spaza shop policies.

The purpose of these policies is to regulate and control the operations of spaza shops and childcare centres through the prescribed norms and standards. It also wants to ensure compliance with safety and health requirements and provide a proper establishment of spaza shops and child care centres and the application process thereof.

The minimum standards will guide the municipality when evaluating land development applications for the establishment of these facilities/centres, thus ensuring a consistent approach to spaza shops and child care centres within the municipality.

Members of the public who would like to comment on the draft policies may still send their comments by email before April 30 to the following officials:
• Busisiwe Masemola at Busisiwe.masemola@ekurhulei.gov.za
• Ntwaki Matlou at Ntwaki.Matlou@ekurhuleni.gov.za

The copies of the policies can be downloaded from the city’s website at www.ekurhuleni.gov.za
