Thabang Xaba Foundation dinner well attended

Speakers gave messages of support.

Kwa-Thema – the Thabang Xaba Foundation on Friday honoured local heroes at a gala dinner fundraiser at the Kwa-Thema Hall.

About 100 people, including stakeholders, NPOs and community members attended the event. Various organisations received awards for their roles in the community and for making a difference.

Department of Health and Wellness MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko said, during her speech, the community tends to leave disabled people behind and doesn’t embrace them fully. She pleaded that everybody should be embraced and that everyone is in unity.


Vusi Rabini received an award in sport and opted to show it off at a local sports ground.

Member of Parliament in the National Assembly, Nompendulo Mkhatshwa said, “We need to remove the stigma of thinking that TVETs are below par.

“We are a skills development country and should utilise TVETs as they also contribute to skills sectors.”

The regional director of social development, Phumla Nkosi said there is government funding for NPOs. She also mentioned that social development needs help from people on the ground.
Artists also performed at the event.


Lenttie Tshona, Local Drug Action Committee chairperson accepted an NGO award.

Vusi Rabini, who was awarded in the sports category, said, “As a disabled coach, I am happy to make a difference in the community.

“I aim to remove children from the streets and I am slowly achieving that.”

Thabang Xaba said, “The support from the community and the officials who all attended the event overwhelmed me.

“People also saw that officials do bring themselves closer to the people,” he said.
