Residents urged to be vigilant over long weekend

The police and safety officers rolled out safety campaigns in Tsakani.

Tsakani – Various roleplayers advised people at Tsakani Main Clinic on Tuesday to be cautious when embarking on trips over the Easter holiday.

They urged them to be alert at ATMs to avoid fraud-related crimes and report gender-based violence and property crimes.

The campaign was made possible by the members of Tsakane Social Crime Prevention, EMPD Social Crime Prevention, iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre, Arrive Alive and other organisations.

Sergeant Lebogang Ramaesa from the Tsakani SAPS said they felt it crucial to roll out the campaign because the crimes likely to be committed are gender-based violence, burglary, theft and kidnapping.

“High alcohol abuse is also experienced during long weekends resulting in gender-based violence with women and children at the receiving end.

“We urge residents to be vigilant,” he added.
