Game doing well after being launched last year

Game teaches life skills.

Duduza – Mind Calibrator, which was launched last year, has yielded positive results.

Since it was released, learners at Thandi Sibeko Secondary in Duduza have been enjoying the game as it has brought changes in their everyday lives.

Mind Calibrator is an educational and business prototype board game created by Andries Mokoena, a developer and former maths tutor.

Mokoena said he has tested the product and seen that there is a market for it.

“I’m hoping to launch the computerised app game later this year but that will only depend on the funding,” said Mokoena.

Mokoena hopes to get funding to digitalise the game. African Reporter spoke to Grade 11 learners at Thandi Sibeko and heard what they had to say about the game.

Tinotenda Chapatarongo (17) said, “It has taught me to have an open mind and also taught me teamwork.

“It also helps with behaviour and attitude as we get to see things in a different light.”

Chapatarongo said he hopes the game can be used by a bigger broader market as it can help other learners with their studies.

Katlego Tsotetsi (16) said, “The game is a mind changer, it helps one to think while it also helps with maths skills.

“It has also taught me that positive behaviour and attitude bring positive results.”

Boitumelo Dludlu (17) said playing the game calms one’s mind and helps in thinking fluently. He said it also teaches life skills.

The Life Orientation HOD at the school, Terrence Matsana, said, “The learners are enjoying the game.

“There is also an improvement in maths literacy and life orientation.”

Matsana said learners have also showed enthusiasm towards the game and have learnt also how to behave in class.

“Learners also learn how to tackle other subjects when in class. I wish this can be introduced to other schools as well,” concluded Matsana.
