Uncut grass still a problem in some areas

Uncut grass a danger to community

Tsakani – The community of Ext 12A, known as Tokyo, situated near Pholosong Hospital in Tsakani, is not happy with the grass not being cut, which has led to the blocking up of a nearby water ditch.

Ward 82 community member, Msindisi Mshudulu, said it is a reason for concern because learners now have to use longer routes to get to school instead of the usual path, as it is now a wild veld.

“Last week, a friend of mine saw a snake as he was coming from a supermarket. This makes us wonder if we are safe?” said Mshudulu.

Mshudulu also said people now have to destroy the walled fencing in their yards so that water may flow.

He said water gets blocked up in the yards. This is due to a water ditch now blocked by the grass, causing the water not to be able to flow.

Ward 82 Clr Henry Buitendacht said, “We are aware of the situation. I went last year with members of the community to attempt to clean up the area. However, there is a lot of work that needs to be done.”

Buitendacht said according to the metro there is no budget currently for the parks to be maintained and all they can do is wait for the new budget to be allocated.

“A community member who stays by the area took R1 000 from their pocket last year to cut the grass there but with the rain we’ve had recently, we find ourselves in this situation again,” concluded Buitendacht.
