Intervention set in place for Lefa Ifa Secondary School

Chief whip of the ANC set to turn around the troubled Lefa-Ifa Secondary School.

Kwa-Thema- The chief whip of the ANC in Ekurhuleni has committed his office to help nurse the poor performance at Lifa-Ifa Secondary School.

The matric class of 2022 achieved a 53.4 % pass rate, an improvement from the previous year where they achieved 47.5%.

The school also managed to achieve 49 bachelor admissions. They are the only school in Kwatsaduza that achieved below the 70% mark and they hold the last position. It is alleged there is a group of teachers intent on not supporting the new principal, Disekeletso Saboshego.

Saboshego said one of the challenges they faced last year was the departure of the mathematics teacher in July and they didn’t have a teacher for some time.

“We have agreed with the school principal of Phulong Secondary School to teach some of the chapters,” she explained.

She added they have pledged to revive the school and do extra work to improve performance.

During the meeting, Ward 74 Clr Thulani Similane listed some of the challenges he has noted at the school which include divisions between the management of the school and poor support for the new principal.

There is a shortage of classes, furniture, broken windows, lack of parental involvement and gangsterism. Chief whip of the Ekurhuleni ANC Jongizizwa Dlabathi said they have picked up there is a management issue.

“It is alleged that they are not working together, we are expecting the district department of education to intervene to find a lasting solution.

“There is an intervention needed to change the direction of the school.”

Dlabathi said they will table a proposal with measures to improve the school and apply similar interventions as with Tlakula Secondary School for the next three years.

“Our focus is the learners, it is clear from the 2022 matric results that there is a need for an intervention in the school,” he said.

During the visit, the chief whip also donated school shoes to the school.
