Mixed bag of matric results for Kwa-Thema high schools

Tlakula Secondary School performed better than in 2021.

Kwa-Thema – With high schools in Kwa-Thema achieving above 70%, as Lefa-Ifa obtained 53.4%, it found itself at the bottom of the seven high schools in Kwa-Thema.

Though on the bottom, Lefa-Ifa performed better than in 2021, improving from 47.7% to 53.4%.

Principal Disekeletšo Saboshego said, “I couldn’t sleep. The results disturbed me very much as I was hoping that we would perform better.

“The increase was due to the eighth subject we introduced in matric.

“We introduced tourism and received a 100% pass through the 90 learners were doing it for the first time.”
The school had 264 learners registered to write, 223 who wrote and 104 who failed.

Of the 119 who passed there were 49 bachelor passes, 45 diploma passes and 25 higher certificate passes which according to Seboshego was more quality than quantity.

One of Lifa-Ifa top achievers Sihle Sikhakhane, with a distinction in tourism and an average of 62.75% said he has applied for law at UJ and UMP and was waiting for a response from the universities.

Meanwhile, Zimisele Secondary School achieved a 92.8% pass from the previous 79.5%, toppling Tlakula Secondary School from the number one position in Kwa-Thema at 89.7% from 83.2%.

Tlakula School principal Nonhlanhla Thembekwayo said though they are second, she is happy that their results have improved from last year’s results.

The school produced 18 distinctions with 73 bachelor passes, 38 diploma passes and 28 higher certificate passes.

Zimisele produced 26 distinctions, 81 bachelor passes, 43 diploma passes and 18 higher certificate passes.

Zimisele principal Thembinkosi Msimang said they are now aiming for a 100% pass mark.
