The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is excited to launch a new FREE Face-to-Face Mental Health Support Group for Men.

The Support Group will launch on January 19th at 10am, and after that, they will meet every second Thursday at 10am.

The Support Group will meet Face to Face at the Apostolic Faith Mission Church at 9292 Mbalo Drive in Dobsonville, Soweto.

According to the Support Group Leader for Men’s Mental Health, Tintswalo, everyone is affected by Mental Health struggles and men are no exception.

“Men don’t always share much about their feelings because of all the stigma associated with it, and it has become imperative to encourage them to speak and not bottle up what their struggles may be. Not sharing your feelings can result in you using alternatives like drinking, anger and violence as an outlet.

“A Men’s Mental Health Support Group can offer you a place where you can engage with peers to talk about similar issues. You can receive support and also share coping mechanisms and create long-lasting bonds.

“I run an NPO, advocating against Gender-Based Violence, Femicide and Substance Abuse in Soweto. The main objective of this support group is to raise awareness to understand the connection between violence and Mental Health,” he said.

He also adds that the purpose of this Support Group is: “To ensure that young men and men have access to effective, empathetic, and person-centred Mental Health Care to prevent recurrence of future episodes of violence and Mental Illness.”

If you are an adult man over the age of 18 years and you are dealing with unmet needs, feelings of abandonment, neglect, rejection, abuse and feeling suicidal, please contact Tintswalo on 063 208 0811 to find out more information and to join the Support Group. You don’t have to go through it on your own.
