Road users urged to obey traffic officials

Some motorists create problems for officers deployed at non-functioning traffic lights.

The EMPD has appealed to road users to obey the rules of the road when instructed by officers, especially at non-operational traffic lights.

“When the traffic lights are out of order or removed, the EMPD would deploy officers at such intersections, especially busy ones,” said EMPD media liaison officer Lerato Monyane.

“EMPD officers cannot be at every problematic traffic light, but the department strives to work with diligence and is committed to Batho Pele principals. The EMPD is always working with the community and all road users.”

According to Monyane, some of the difficulties faced by officers at faulty traffic lights are impatient motorists who cannot wait their turn.

Other motorists utilise their cellphones during this time, which is also prohibited.
