Tsakane Old Age Home elders receive dental treatment

No headaches for elders as they received dental treatment.

Tsakani – The Tsakane Old Age Home residents received dental treatment done by the Ekurhuleni Dental Department on Thursday at the home.

This was a follow-up consultation after the screening was done earlier. Twenty elders had tooth extractions, while seven had tooth cleaning.

Oral hygienist Tebogo Lubisi said, “As part of our programme we have been visiting old age homes and institutions for the mentally disabled.

“We first came to the home to screen the elders and see their needs as individuals and we now come for the treatment.

“Unfortunately, tooth patching takes time, therefore those in need of it will have to visit us at Pholosong Hospital.”

Centre manager Phoko Mokobung said, “I am happy as things such as tooth problems are what make our elders not recover from their sicknesses quickly as they can’t eat well or follow the correct diet because of painful teeth.

“We are grateful that the dental department came here instead of us taking the elderly to the hospital.”
Mokobung said it is hard for the elderly to travel to the clinic or hospital.

“Since the tooth extraction and cleaning some no longer complain of headaches, so the dental department assisted us a lot,” concluded Mokubung.
