SAMA lifetime achievement award winner Joe Nina to celebrate his award in music

Raised in Kwa-Thema, Joe Nina would like to celebrate his award with the people of Ekurhuleni.

Kwa-Thema – Kwa-Thema-raised musical giant Joe Nina will be celebrating his music career and the lifetime achievement award he won in August on November 26.

Nina has been in the industry for 34 years and now has 30 albums.

“I was born in Ekurhuleni hence I saw it fit to bring the event here. At the same time, we will be launching the monthly events to take place at The Plot for live performances of some of the living icons and remembering those that have left us.

“This will create development for young up-and-coming musicians and businesses,” said Nina.

Nina said they are speaking to the metro and trying to bring it on board and according to him “discussions are going well so far.”

At the moment the partners for the event are The Plot, Sampra and Café 69.

“I got into the industry through my father Solomon Zox Xaba who had a band called The Shamings. Meanwhile, my mother was a backing vocalist. It was a difficult journey but I finally got through with my first LP at the age of 14 in the late 1980s,” said Nina.

Nina said music has taken a wild turn; it’s not the same conviction as it was in their times.

“I hope more young talented musicians take music more seriously and learn to sing or at least play an instrument. However, it is up to an individual who loves music and wants to do it for a lifetime,” concluded Nina.

The celebration event will take place on November 26 at The Plot, Plot 8, 10th Road, Withok Estate in Brakpan from 12:00.
