Five arrested for Duduza pensioner’s murder

Pensioner, Boy Tshabalala's killers finally arrested.

Kwa-Thema – The family of the late Boy Sipho Tshabalala is relieved that his alleged killers were finally arrested and brought to book to face their crimes.

Tshabalala was shot and killed by a group of four armed men on July 9 while walking to a local butchery.

It is alleged that the suspects stopped on a busy road and showered the pensioner with a hail of bullets, spun the car around a few times before driving off, leaving a cloud of dust behind.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka said Tshabalala was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

On Wednesday, five suspects appeared before the Nigel Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of murder.

The case was postponed to next Wednesday for a formal bail hearing and to give the investigating officer a chance to finalise outstanding information with Home Affairs about accused number five, a Zimbabwean national.

The deceased’s sister, Deliwe Tshabalala, said they are relieved that her brother’s killers have been arrested.

“He was killed senselessly. We only found out about his passing three months after the incident.

“We tried to call him and searched his home, hospitals and government mortuaries unsuccessfully.

“One day the investigating officer in the missing case called us to identify the body of an unknown man at a government mortuary in Heidelberg and indeed it was him,” she explained.

Another sister added that all they want to know is the suspects’ reasons for executing their older brother.

“My brother didn’t deserve to die in that manner. He was an honest citizen who depended only on his pension fund.

“We are pleading with the court to punish them accordingly for cutting his life short,” she added.
