262-run win for Kwa-Thema

Kwa-Thema Women's Cricket Club thrash Old Benonians.

Kwa-Thema Women’s Cricket Club played against Old Benonians in Benoni on October 29.

This was their second game in the Eastern Union League. They could not play against Geluksdul on October 22 due to rain.

KT Women’s played in the Eastern Union schools earlier this year, however, they did not win through the points system and ended in the fourth position.

The team played six games, lost one and drew the rest and therefore did not qualify. To qualify the team needed 15 points and they only had 13.

KT Women’s team coach, Mandla Nkosi said: “I’m happy with the results as we were aiming and hoping for a win.

“Last season ended with us at number two.

“Rainout is what cost us mostly to end up in the position as we had to mostly share points. Our season this year started again with a rainout.

“We don’t want to lose any games so that we can win the league.”

“I wish we can get more support from the community, especially when playing home games.

“The community should also bring their children to the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex to come to join sports, especially girl children. We need the number of girls to grow in cricket,” he said.

The results were:
– KT Women’s: 295 for one after 30 overs
– Old Benonians: 33 for nine after 13 overs
– The best batters were Mpumi Mashiloane with 173* and Bathabile Mabena with 41*
– KT Women’s won by 262 runs.
