Family demand suspect to be denied bail

Paula's murder suspect's bail hearing postponed.

Kwa-Thema- The family of the murdered, Paula Mqoma is pleading with the Springs Magistrate’s Court to deny her alleged killer bail.

On Tuesday morning the suspect appeared before the court on his third attempt to apply for bail.
His bail application was postponed to October 17.

Paula, the 47-year-old victim from Ext Two died at Pholosong Hospital weeks ago after she was allegedly assaulted by her long-term boyfriend.

She suffered head injuries and lost function on her left side. She was rushed to the hospital by paramedics following an alleged fight between her and her boyfriend.

Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Constable Nkululeko Magudulela said witnesses allege the couple frequently fought until the early hours of the morning.

“On the night leading to Paula’s death, it is alleged the two were fighting again and she could be heard screaming for help,” he explained.

Paula’s mother, Ellen Mbonani, said she wants justice for her late daughter.

“My daughter died in a lot of pain and couldn’t walk or speak. The longer this case keeps dragging, the more we are reminded of the pain that she was in,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the OneStrong Voice Foundation, Brian Sithole said, “We condemn gender-based violence, especially against women and children.

“We are calling on the state to punish those responsible for the senseless murder to be denied bail and be punished accordingly.

“We are also calling residents to stand in solidarity with victims and their families and support them during court appearances,” he added.
