KUSO donates R28 000 in support of Kwa-Thema Strider’s trip to compete in Comrades Marathon

KUSO donates R28 000 towards Kwa-Thema Strider athletes' transport and accommodation during the Comrades Marathon.

Kwa-Thema – 50 athletes from Kwa-Thema Striders will be tackling the 89 km Comrades Marathon on Saturday.
This is an ultra-marathon, hosted annually in KwaZulu-Natal, ran between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
The team will be part of thousands of other international runners fighting to finish the race and possibly be crowned winners.
It seems the runners will have a cool run this year with the latest weather forecast on the day indicating a 12°C start, with over 70% humidity and a 20-43% chance of rain.
The snowy weather conditions on the Drakensberg mountains will also work to the runners’ advantage in anticipating a cooler run.

“The team is playing an important role in the community by organizing athletes in our communities and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
“By qualifying for the long-distance run shows that they have worked hard over the months and for that, we are proud of them,” he said.
He added that they are encouraged by their determination to be exemplary to the youth.

“Kwa-Thema Striders is revoking the spirit of excellence which seems to be fading in our community.
“We know we won’t be able to revive the spirit overnight but as KUSO we want to be counted amongst those that took action towards positive activities in the community,” he added.
Deputy chairman of Kwa-Thema Striders, Sipho Skosana, said they appreciated the support from KUSO.
“The organisation will remain our strategic partner in all our initiatives because of their caring attitude whenever we reach out to them for help.
“We are indebted to them and other stakeholders for their generosity and support,” he added.
The team will be leaving on Thursday and those who wish to share their messages of support can contact the secretary, Tshepo Mahlangu on 078 484 7773.
