The farming association is inviting the public to attend their farm market

The market will take place on August 31 at Withok Plots.

Kwatsaduza – The Ekurhuleni Farming Development Association is inviting you to an agriculture and pottery career expo day, to take place on August 31 at Withok Plots, aimed at empowering women.
This is in conjunction with the City of Ekurhuleni, Sengkhona Training, Club 200 Smart Village, Ubuntu Farm College and Matsogo A Shoma Pottery.

The members of the Ekurhuleni Farming Development Association are urging the public to attend their market opening showcase.

On the day 10 trainees and six volunteers will be awarded certificates for completing the technical and practical training course with the institution.
They offer skills development programmes to empower women within Kwatsaduza.
Desly Fortuin, the chairperson of the organisation, said funding for skills development remains a challenge.
“The certificates will be awarded to our intake from last year February.
“They went through plant production amongst others.
“The aim is to encourage the community to start their food gardens for consumption and to earn an extra income,” he explained.
The initiative was funded by Lotto South Africa.

He added that as soon as they get the funding they will be able to absorb another group into their skills development programme.
“We run a feeding scheme as well twice a month working together with Clr Henry Buitendacht of Ward 82.
“The scheme runs on Tuesday and Thursday.
“We are encouraging the community to attend the career fair and come ready to purchase fresh vegetables, flower pots and other items that will be displayed on the day,” he added.
Volunteer Mita Mbokazi said, “The experience has been life-changing.
“I have grown spinach, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes brinjal and green papers that I can sell for extra income and also uplift my community through donations.”
The programme was established as a plight against food security and to alleviate poverty.
On the day they will cover various topics relating to pottery and agriculture.
They plan on hosting the market once a month going forward.
Businesses are invited to set up stalls for R100.
