Local NPO determined to empower children

Children talked too about drugs, abuse and bullying.

Tsakani – The We Can Do This Community Project recently held a dialogue to tackle social issues.
The NPO aimed to raise awareness of bullying, teenage pregnancy and rape through the dialogue.
NPO founder Matshidiso Silinda said children need to be equipped to handle challenging situations.
“The purpose of the talks is for educational purposes.
“We discuss various topics that most affect children and give them a platform to ask questions.
“We talk about speaking out if they are being bullied or something is being done to them against their will, and how to find a trustworthy individual they can ask for help from.
“We also raise awareness that boys too can be raped,” she said.

The NPO has added more mural activities to its existing list, including poetry, dance (kofifi and gumboots), and acting.
She said her decision to add more activities was informed by realising that sports are not the only activity that can positively contribute to a child’s education and growth.
Their monthly talks also put a spotlight on drug abuse amongst teenagers.
The dialogue session was held at the Proper Stars Sports Ground.
The NPO holds its soccer and netball training from Tuesday to Thursday from 15:30 to 17:30.
On Fridays, they host the other activities on their list from 15:30 to 17:30.
