Marikana residents clean illegal dumping sites

Residents committed to cleaning illegal dumping sites.

Kwa-Thema – Residents of the Marikana informal settlement spent their 67 minutes for the Mandela Day campaign cleaning the dumping site in the area.
This was in a bid to fight the mushrooming of illegal dumping sites.
Concerned resident Mthumeleni Ndita explained that they saw it fit to honour the memory of the late former South African president Nelson Mandela by fighting illegal dumping.

“Our children don’t have anywhere to play because every available piece of land is covered with litter. This dirt also compromises our health,” he added.
Mthumeleni added that they are urging the metro to provide the area with wheelie bins and refuse bags.
