Duduza – The Nkomonde family is reeling with grief after Olwethu Tshabalala (9) died after their house caught fire in the early hours of Sunday morning in Masechaba View.
It is alleged the parents were attending a party at their neighbour’s house.
The neighbours heard the girl screaming for help and upon investigation, they found the house on fire and managed to rescue Sinethemba Nkomonde.
She sustained minor burn injuries on her hands while Olwethu succumbed to her injuries.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka explained that upon inspection of the burned house they found Olwethu’s lifeless body.
“Delly Nkomonde explained that they left the children alone in the main house whilst the elders were out having fun at their neighbour’s house.
“Police have opened an inquest and further investigations are underway,” he added.
