Police take Child Protection Week campaign to schools

Tsakani police urged learners from Phumlani Primary School to report any forms of abuse.

Tsakani – Tsakani police, together with GBV Brigades and crisis centre, took their Child Protection Month campaign to Phumlani Primary School last Friday.
The visits to different schools will continue to cover most of Tsakane schools as part of Child Protection Month activities.
Tsakani police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu said different stakeholders had the opportunity to speak with the learners about some of the issues affecting children.

“We want to raise awareness in school and be able to access the targeted group of children to educate them about rape, drug abuse, bullying, child stealing, human trafficking and teenage pregnancy.
“We urged them to respect their parents, educators, and other learners and take their learning period serious,” she explained.
The learners were further urged to report any form of abuse to an adult who will help them to further report to the police any forms of sexual offences or crimes that they might witness or become victims of.
“We are calling on children to reach out for help immediately when they suspect that they are or might be in danger,” she explained.
