Bokamoso Youth Center is running an after-school programme

The initiative aims to keep Kwatsaduza learners and unemployed youth off the streets.

Kwa-Thema – An after-school dance programme offers a safe place for learners and unemployed youth.
Bokamoso Youth and Community Development, an NPO founded by Tebogo Bowe, is empowering the youth of Kwatsaduza through skills development, educational support, arts and extra mural activities.
They offer filming and acting, dancing, music, choreography and modelling.
Bowe said the youth needs to be kept active.
“A lot is going on in the world right now. The youth is left frustrated with the high rate of unemployment. As the saying goes, an idle mind is the devil’s playground.
“That’s why you find out youth today experimenting with substances and getting involved in criminal activities. But there’s one thing that young people are fascinated with, especially during their teen years, is that they all want to act, sing, dance and dream of being superstars,” he said.

He added that it is important to introduce the youth to extra mural activities that best align with their dreams and aspirations.
He said through the programme they get to learn through practice and creating.
“Not everyone is academically gifted. Some learners excel when it comes to creative arts. We also offer aftercare services for rehabilitated youth.”
For this programme, they have partnered with youth activist and dancer Sthembiso Khumalo.
Through the partnership, they want to grow the organisation and recruit others who to make a difference in the lives of young people.

Bokamoso Youth and Community Development is calling on youth to join their after-school programme.

“This is a community project that aims to give back to the community. Together we would like to see these learners go on to achieve more. I want to see them on television or hear their songs play on the radio,” explained Khumalo.
They asking for donations and support from the community.
They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Kwa-Thema Community Hall from 15:30 until 17:00.
