Elders in Tsakani were educated about forms of abuse

Tsakani police take their abuse campaign to the elders at Intsika Society Club

Tsakani – Police visited the Intsika Elderly Society to educate them about different forms of abuse, especially gender-based violence.

Intsika is a women’s society with the majority of elderly people.
This was part of the station’s campaign to educate residents about abuse.
Tsakani police spokesperson, Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu said they often received cases of the elderly who have been abused for years but were not aware that this is a criminal offence.

“We wanted to educate elderly women about the forms of abuse and how to report them.
“One of the common crimes that the elderly is exposed to include crimes committed by their grandchildren, such as stealing money from the elders and emotional abuse,” she explained.
The elders were also urged not to allow stolen goods or any criminal activities in their homes.
They were encouraged to report any form of abuse or crime that they might witness or become victims of to the police.
