Family lucky to escape death

The Mbatha family was awakened by flames engulfing their home.

Kwa-Thema – The Mbatha family managed to escape safely after their house caught fire in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The fire is believed to have started from a faulty electricity cord in Nomvula Mbatha’s bedroom.
The 34-year-old was awakened by flames engulfing her bedroom.
Nomvula said she could only save her daughter from the flames before they spread to the rest of the house.
“I watched as everything we owned was reduced to ashes as neighbours tried to put out the fire with water hoses and buckets of water.

“We have lost the children’s school uniforms and books in the fire,” she explained.
Nomvula added that they are pleading with residents to help the family get back on their feet.
“I am unemployed and don’t know how we will be able to overcome this tragedy,” she added.
On Monday morning, a group of concerned residents with Ward 74 Clr Thulani Simelane gathered to help clean the house and remove the rubble.
Simelane promised to help the family get back on their feet by seeking donations from local businessmen.
