Second-hand goods dealers found with stolen goods will be arrested

Local second-hand dealers urged to comply with the law.

Tsakani – Tsakani SAPS station commander Colonel Goodall Mbatha urges second-hand dealers to comply with the law and trading regulations.
He was speaking during a meeting with dealers last Friday.
Mbatha told dealers to refrain from buying stolen goods from their customers.
“If a dealer is found with stolen goods they will be arrested and charged accordingly.
“In response to the spate of infrastructure vandalism, police have established a team to deal with the issue of infrastructure vandalism and if dealers are found in possession of any infrastructure property they will be arrested,” he explained.

He urged dealers to work hand-in-hand with the police to combat the trade in stolen goods.
During the meeting they tackled issues of compliance inspection. This is to ensure the dealers fully understand how the law works in relation to the services they offer.
Mbatha added that no dealer may deliver illegal goods, change the compliance form or alter its appearance after the expiry date.
“It is the responsibility of the dealer to report any suspicious person who attempts to dispose of suspected stolen goods to them,” he added.
