Tsakani police and other stakeholders educate residents about GBV

Tsakani police took to the streets to raise awareness about GBV.

Tsakani – The fight against the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) is underway as police and other stakeholders recently conducted a door-to-door gender-based violence awareness campaign in Extension Eight.
This was in collaboration with the Tsakani Crisis Centre, Ithemba Rape and Trauma, GCIS, CPF, Department of Community Safety (CPF and Social crime) and GBV brigades.
During the campaign, pamphlets about sexual abuse and GBV, safety tips and contact numbers where the community can find help were distributed to the community.
Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu said the campaign is aimed at educating residents about GBV and what to do when they or anyone they know is abused.

“We are concerned about the growing number of GBV incidents in the area and have identified that some of our residents don’t understand fully what abuse and GBV are.
“We believe through these campaigns we will be able to reach and educate more people,” she added.
Tsakani SAPS station commander Col Goodall Khumbulani Mbatha, who was also in attendance, said he also received complaints from residents in order to listen to their challenges and concerns related to the police with the aim to resolve or refer them accordingly.
