Aggrieved residents of Kwa-Thema are planning to shut down services in the area from Monday

In the last seven days, the group blocked Kwa-Thema CCC, denying the employees and residents to access the facility.

Kwa-Thema – The aggrieved residents of Kwa-Thema are threatening to shut down services from Monday until their challenges are addressed by the metro.
This is in response to the feedback meeting they had with the MMC of Community Safety, Victor Moseki, on Monday afternoon.
Last month, the aggrieved group submitted a memorandum of grievances to the metro, demanding the Kwa-Thema Customer Care Centre (CCC) finance manager be redeployed elsewhere in the metro.
The concerned residents raised issues of EMPD employment priority, for their municipal historical debts to be fully cleared, collapsing structure housing Kwa-Thema Police Station and the poor treatment residents endure from the financial manager at Kwa-Thema CCC.
In the last seven days, the group blocked Kwa-Thema CCC, denying the employees and residents to access the facility.

This is after they identified that the CCC finance manager was still reporting for duty after they were allegedly promised he was redeployed.
Community leader Tshepo Mwasi said they were not happy with the feedback they received from the metro concerning the redeployment of the finance manager and the refusal to clear the historical debts.
“The other issues we will address over time, but what is important is for the debts to be scrapped and the self-entitled manager to leave our area.
“We are going to protest and block main entrances from Monday. If we don’t receive satisfying feedback from the metro, the protest will continue for the rest of the week,” he explained.
A statement released by the office of the mayor said they are calling on all political parties represented in council to condemn violence and declare themselves in support of the conclusion of a meaningful IDP process.
“The unrest was particularly targeted at disrupting and preventing IDP public participation meetings in these areas.
“The violence is also clearly politically motivated, as the perpetrators are being bused into the affected areas rather than being residents there,” she added.
She added that law enforcement officials are investigating this matter to identify the orchestrators.
