Tsakani woman confesses to killing nephew

It is alleged Mthembu assaulted the 16-year-old with a stick for stealing her money.

Tsakani – Murder accused Andile Aalivirah Mthembu confessed to killing her nephew in front of magistrate Nico Venter in his chambers during her bail application at the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mthembu was arrested on April 1 for the murder of her 16-year-old nephew, Neo Mahlangu, while he visited her home in Tsakani.
It is alleged Mthembu assaulted the 16-year-old with a stick for stealing her money.
When she realised he was dead, she hired people to dig a hole, claiming it was for a water tank.

She is alleged to have later buried the teenager in the hole. On March 24, she reported him missing to the police.
Her accomplice later informed his relatives about the incident and contacted the police.
Gauteng police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Sello said on March 31, the Gauteng Organised Crime team followed up on a tip-off about the incident and questioned Mthembu.
“This led to the discovery of the body that was buried in the backyard, where the suspect was arrested.
“She was charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice and perjury,” she added.
The case was postponed to April 12 for further investigation. It is expected to be transferred to the regional court.
