Police remove weapons from school

“It is to make the schools a safe environment for educators and learners for teaching and learning to take place with no interruption.”

Tsakani – To ensure the school environment is safe, the Tsakani police rolled out a surprise search at Geluksdal Secondary School and Reshegofaditshwe Secondary School on Wednesday.
They found knives, a screwdriver, a braai fork, 10 packets of dagga, dagga in a pencil bag and one packet of a substance suspected to be drugs.
Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu explained the random search is part of the school safety programme that aims to remove all drugs and weapons from schools.

“It is to make the schools a safe environment for educators and learners for teaching and learning to take place with no interruption.
“It came to our attention that the learners at Geluksdal Secondary were divided into two racial groups, which promote racism and gangsterism in the school,” she explained.
Mngomezulu added before the search, stakeholders addressed the learners about the dangers of fighting and bullying.
This was also to educate them about respecting each other’s human rights and embracing diversity.
Learners who were found in possession of illegal items were dealt with accordingly.
Tsakani SAPS station commander Col Goodall Khumbulani warned learners the police will continue to do random searches in Tsakani schools to ensure the schools are a safe learning environment.
