Police caution learners

“We wanted to make the learners aware of issues of gender-based violence, rape, human trafficking and drug abuse.”

Tsakani- The local SAPS Social Crime Prevention Desk cautioned learners from falling prey to a syndicate targeting young women on Valentine’s Day.
Representatives from the Victim Empowerment Centre, Department of Community Safety and GBV Brigades conducted the campaign.
Speaking to the learners at JE Malepe Secondary School, Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu urged learners not to fall for proposals such as receiving gifts from anyone who ask for favours in return.

“We wanted to make the learners aware of issues of gender-based violence, rape, human trafficking and drug abuse. Over the years, we have noted that perpetrators tend to take advantage of their victims on Valentine’s Day,” said Mngomezulu.
“They target school-going girls, and as a result, rape cases spike,” she explained.
The police urged learners to report any form of abuse or crime.
