NPO gifting mothers with baby clothes

Kwa-Thema-based NPO Sizwele Charity Organisation is helping mothers with baby essentials.

Kwatsaduza – Kwa-Thema-based NPO Sizwele Charity Organisation is helping single new mothers with baby essentials.
The organisation was established in 2020 by friends Gugulethu Ngema, Thobeka Zuma and Nompumelelo Moepye.
“We provide baby items to pregnant women who don’t have any support structure.
“Some women are forced to go through their pregnancies without the support of their families, baby daddies or sometimes you find both parents are unemployed,” explained Ngema.

She said the idea came about when she gave birth to her daughter.
“There were two women in my ward who didn’t have a baby bag.
“And you could see it in their eyes the shame they felt.

“To make matters worse, nurses would shout at them without fully understanding their situations.
“We had to donate some extra clothes we had packed. That’s when it dawned on me that a lot of women go through a similar situation,” she said.
The organisation, which is named after her daughter, donates clothes, blankets, bottles, nappies and bags.

So far, they are helping over 30 mothers and are requesting assistance from the community.
“Since we don’t have sponsors and funders, we collect clothes from mothers who no longer use them.
“At times, we take out money from our own pockets to help wherever we can.
“Our goal is to deliver and donate, even in Springs, but transport is also a challenge at the moment,” she said.
New mothers who would like to be assisted are urged to contact the NPO on 076 895 5520 (calls and WhatsApp) or reach them on Facebook at Sizwele Charity Organisation.
You can donate clothes for newborns and babies up to 12 months.
Those who would like to donate second-hand baby clothes in a good condition can also reach out to the NPO.
They also accept donations of nappies, formula and baby food.
