The event will start in March in Germiston. Nthabiseng Phala qualified to compete in shotput and long jump.

Kwa-Thema – Twenty-two members from the Kwa-Thema Disability Club will take part in the Toyota SA Sports for the Physically Disabled National Championships.

“They never cease to amaze me. Every time they do well, we all get so excited. I am just super proud,” said the founder and coach of the club, Aubrey Mathibela.

The event will start in March in Germiston. Nthabiseng Phala qualified to compete in shotput and long jump.

“I am always confident going into any competition. I know I will put in my best effort in training for now. When the day finally arrives, I will come back with medals,” she said.

Her team members, Micheal Moeketsana, Dimakatso Lekageng and Kamogelo Nhlapo, are also itching to compete.

The club has also been invited to participate in the Winelands International Para Athletics Competition. The event will take place in Stellenbosch on February 26.

“This competition will help the athletes qualify for the Commonwealth Games later in the year. I want all of them to go. Even if they do not qualify, they can learn from the experience and do better next time,” added Mathibela.

He is appealing to the community and businesses to help them raise the funds they need for both events.
