Young man from Duduza aces matric

“She encouraged excellence and made sure we were well taken care of and all our school needs were met,” he added.

Duduza – Lesedi Malope is breaking boundaries and claiming his place in the world.
The 18-year-old from Bluegum View passed matric with distinctions in accounting and English.
He is one of the 2021 top achievers from Asser Maloka Secondary School and is a beneficiary of the department’s foster care programme.
He is now enrolled to study a degree in chartered accounting at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
Lesedi said losing his parents at an early age has not kept him from reaching his dream of becoming a chartered accountant.

He said despite growing up as an orphan, one thing that kept him going was the support he received from his grandmother, Tryphina Rangoaga.
“I was raised in a very strict household and followed my grandmother’s instructions.
“She encouraged excellence and made sure we were well taken care of and all our school needs were met,” he added.
In a show of support, his grandmother cut his chores so he could focus only on his studies.
She would even set the alarm on her phone and wake him up at night to study.
“I am going to work very hard to thank my family by being successful,” added Lesedi.
Lesedi intends to be a game changer in his family.
