Local engineer cracks a solution for problem skin

Kwa-Thema – Qualified mechanical engineer Matlhomi Makhetha has downed his coat to help fight skin problems for residents of Kwa-Thema.
The 32-year-old started his organic cosmetic-manufacturing business in his kitchen.
He is now conducting workshops in local schools where he educates learners about the importance of good hygiene and using skin-friendly products.
Matlhomi said he identified that young people, especially teenagers with changing hormones, experience a drastic change in their skin.

“They struggle with acne and eczema and often resort to products that are harsh to the skin and only make the problem worse.
“I decided to use my knowledge coupled with research to come up with a solution that will remove the problem permanently,” he said.
He focused on natural oils and herbs and found a solution with a soap that was friendlier to the skin.
Matlhomi added that a lack of resources forced him to work from his kitchen.

“I decided to use the resources at my disposal to bring my dreams to life,” he said.
He is hoping to have a studio soon where he will produce more products and cater to the country.
His small business has created employment for unemployed youth who sell and market the product.
