Programme offers insight into television industry

They can apply in the creative sectors such as writing, producing and accounting.

Kwatsaduza – One18Twenty2 recently presented a TV, Film Writing and Producing Masterclass at the Kwa-Thema Family Skills Centre.
The programme was aimed at introducing youth from Ekurhuleni, specifically Kwa-Thema, Tsakani and Duduza, to the television and film industry through carefully designed entry-level roles. About 40 young people attended the class.

Young people who do not have prior skills in film and/or television production but have the passion to work in the industry and those who have been previously trained but are unemployed and struggling to get into the workforce or secure mentorship were invited.
Vanessa Tloubatla, who is head of operations at One18Twenty2, shared why they decided to start this programme.

“Our observation over the years has shown that most learners end up in dead-end jobs in different sectors they are not necessarily passionate about or are under the impression the creative sector only has acting jobs or skills available,” she said.


She added these masterclasses will open up possibilities of other behind-the-scenes roles they may not be considering. They can apply in the creative sectors such as writing, producing and accounting.
“It is with the unwavering support of the Gauteng Film Commission that One18Twenty2 could provide this exceptional opportunity to youth from Ekurhuleni with advanced tool-based skills, knowledge and hands-on experience from experts who are in the industry,” Tloubatla said.

Kwa-Thema’s own actor, producer and director, Kagiso Modupe, shared his expertise on producing and the business of filmmaking, while story developer and scriptwriting trainer Tshenolo Mabale focused on scriptwriting and story development.
