Tsakani – A 22-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the murder of Lungile Makgabutlane. It is alleged the woman stabbed Lungile (25) several times in her upper body during an altercation over a boyfriend. The incident took place in Marikana. Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu said the victim was identified, which helped police with the preliminary investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect. The suspect appeared before the Tsakani Regional Court on Monday morning and the case was postponed to next week Monday ( October 25) to allow her to apply for legal aid representative.

She has remanded in custody. Angry residents marched to the court dressed in black in support of the family. The deceased’s aunt, Nanikie Makgabutlane, said Lungile left home to visit friends in Extension 11, but they became worried when she didn’t return. “On Friday morning, we received the news from neighbours that her body was found at the sports ground. “When we went to identify her body, we saw stab wounds on her neck and upper body,” she added. The aunt rubbished the rumours that Lungile’s neck was slit and that she had been disembowelled. “It is painful for the family to hear all these rumours about our child while we are in mourning and trying to come to terms with the gruesome way she was killed,” she added.
