EMPD places child safety in the spotlight

The EMPD talks about prioritising child safety during Transportation Month.

Kwatsaduza – Children are urged not to take lifts from strangers as the EMPD prioritises child safety during Transportation Month.
EMPD media liaison officer Lerato Monyane stated part of their social crime prevention outreach includes giving educational talks to children.
“Children should never accept a ride from strangers nor people who are known to them unless otherwise stated by the parents.

“It is also much safer for children to walk in groups,” she said.
She added that parents ought to educate their children on rape and human trafficking.
“Teach children that molesters and abductors look like everyday people. They can even be a known person to them. If your child’s transport does not arrive to pick them up, teach them to either call or stay inside the venue until transport arrives,” explained Monyane.

Children are urged to only approach marked police vehicles and uniformed police officers.
