Charity drive raises funds

The organisation houses more than 15 children with disabilities, and the proceeds from the fund-raiser will go towards buying educational toys, arts and crafts materials as well as clothes.

Kwa-Thema – A ’90s retro party fund-raising event provided relief to the Sibusiso Children’s Home for the disabled and orphans.
The organisation houses more than 15 children with disabilities, and the proceeds from the fund-raiser will go towards buying educational toys, arts and crafts materials, as well as clothes.
The event was initiated by Miss Teen Social Entrepreneur South Africa finalist Ofentse Selatole (18).

“I got the idea from having learned that the founders of the home are funding this organisation directly from their own pockets. I then came up with the idea to lend a helping hand with hope that the little I could do to help them out might go a long way.
“This is also in line with my requirements as a finalist in the pageant,” she said.
The event was filled with fun activities, such as karaoke, a dance-off, a skateboarding competition and a fashion show, raffle and prizes for participants.
Selatole is encouraging more people to get involved and provide assistance to the home.

“I feel like it is important for us to take a stand because we know that our government isn’t really doing much to ensure these NGOs, which are doing great work in taking care of our communities, are provided for and are well funded.
“Our country is just deteriorating day by day, so why not do something about it instead of sitting back and watch it go down?
“The event also aimed to create a safe space for all, where we can come together and have fun,” said Selatole.
The home was founded by Jabulile and Lucky Molakeng and is situated at 14 Nyakale Street in Highland.
