Kwa-Thema – Laban Motlhabi learners Nobuhle Diko and Lesego Choshane were crowned winners of the South African Schools Moot Court Competition for Gauteng on Saturday.
This was after competing against learners from 10 other schools, both public and former model C, from across the province.

The South African Schools Moot is a joint initiative of the Department of Basic Education, in partnership with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, under the guidance of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), and is supported by the University of Pretoria.
It was initiated by the University of Pretoria 10 years ago. All high schools in the country are invited to enter a team of two learners who argue both sides (respondent and applicant).
The participants took part in the oral rounds and presented their cases in front of judges.
They started by writing their arguments in an essay format, using the constitution and case laws to solve the case.
With Springs Boys’ High School, the two schools were selected to represent the Gauteng East district at the provincial oral rounds in the final at the Johannesburg High Court.

School principal Orlando Mpatlanyane said he was proud of the learners for emerging victorious.
“Buhle Diko also won the best oralist award.
“This achievement is in line with the school’s motto: ‘Nil nisi optimum, which means only the best is good enough’.”
The learners will represent the province in the national rounds from October 6 to 10.
