State-of-the-art Duduza swimming pool is yet to be completed

Duduza – As other pools in Ekurhuleni will be open to the public, the state-of-the-art Duduza swimming pool, which has been under construction for four years, is yet to be completed and handed over to the community.
Costing over R15-million, the multipurpose pool was supposed to be handed over to the community last year in February but to this day, construction is yet to be completed.
It is fitted with changing rooms, showers with hot and cold water, grandstands and bathrooms.

In an interview with African Reporter, Ward 87 councillor Bongani Hlope promised it would be completed in a few weeks in February last year.
The construction of the pool was meant to be completed two years earlier, but the delay was blamed on unemployed residents who kept stopping the project.
At the time of the interview, the project was said to be in the final stages and plans to hand it over to the community were set for two weeks.
The facility boasts two swimming pools, one for adults and one for children.
Hlophe said the project was supposed to be completed in September two years ago, but because of the continuous stoppages from the disgruntled residents, bad weather, unpaid workers and running out of funds, it fell behind schedule.

“Initially, the metro had budgeted R11-m for the project, but because of the change in contractors and delays, more funds had to be pumped into the project.
“The construction is back on track, finalising some of the remaining constructions.”
Hlophe added they have a set meeting with the officials from the metro and the contractor to receive a progress report and set a date for the hand-over.
