Bicycle boost for local learners

The initiative aims to assist learners who travel 3km between home and school.

Tsakani – Three local schools received 105 bicycles on Sunday from the MEC of Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, Jacob Mamabolo.
The donations were part of the department’s Smart Mobility Weekends programme.
The initiative aims to assist learners who travel 3km between home and school while promoting the use of non-motorised transport and empowers communities to access social and economic opportunities.

The department said cycling as low-cost mobility provides solutions for low-income households.
“As part of our initiative, which has continued for eight weeks across municipalities in Gauteng, the department will continue to bring together resources to the province and local municipalities to ensure our roads are safe,” said Mamabolo.
Principal Vusi Nkosi from Geluksdal Primary School, which was one of the recipient schools, expressed his gratitude.
“We are grateful for the bicycle gifts. This will go a long way in ensuring learners who travel long distances get to school on time.
“The bicycles will also bring financial relief to parents who spend money on transport for their children to come to school,” he said.
