Twenty-nine traffic fines issued during operation Okae Molao in Springs

By the end of the day, the officers had issued 29 traffic fines worth R19 500 for contravening the Road Traffic Act and searched 89 vehicles and 154 people in Springs.

The Springs SAPS with the EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Police and other law-enforcement officers, led by the acting district commissioner, Brig Themba Denge, had another successful operation Okae Molao last Thursday morning.

Drugs of various kinds were found on suspects.

Ekurhuleni district communications officer Capt Neldah Sekgobela said during the first phase of the operation, members of the Ekurhuleni detectives started their operation on Wednesday morning and it lasted until 03:00 the following day.

They traced suspects and put 189 of them behind bars.
“Suspects were arrested for cases such as assault, armed robbery, common robbery, contravention of a court order, fraud, housebreaking and theft, illegal mining, theft, tampering with infrastructure, possession of stolen property, reckless and negligent driving, murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and warrant of arrest.
“Acting Ekurhuleni district commissioner Brig Themba Denge thanked the members for their efforts, cooperation and hard work that resulted in those successes,” said Sekgobela.
Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, police set up a roadblock and checked the roadworthiness of the cars, amongst other things.

When it comes to the fight against drugs, which are prevalent in Springs, 814 people were searched and three people were arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs, one for allegedly dealing in dagga, 22 for possession of drugs and 11 illegal immigrants were arrested.

Acting Ekurhuleni district commissioner Brigadier Themba Denge, leading from the front, checking the roadworthiness of the vehicle.

They also seized 4kg of dagga.
Pamphlets were also distributed to motorists and community members to prevent crime-related issues.
They also confiscated equipment commonly used for illegal mining, such as pendukas, phenduka stands, iron balls, steel rods, gas cylinders, gas bottles, iron pots and bags of gold dust.
They had another operation going on simultaneously in Benoni.
