Young people to be trained in music

“We offer artistic training and life skills that we believe will shape them into responsible citizens.”

Kwa-Thema – Young people in Kwatsaduza were given an opportunity to audition to be part of the Springs Band Field Foundation during a recruitment campaign recently.
Their first stop was in Kwa-Thema, followed by Tornado, Tsakani and later Duduza.
Auditions were held at different recreational parks.
During the campaign, young people at the parks were encouraged to audition using different musical instruments.

Those who make it will then receive training with the help of trained artists to improve their craft.
The foundation’s project officer, Vuyane Mukangi, explained that the foundation was established in 1997 to empower young people.
“We offer artistic training and life skills that we believe will shape them into responsible citizens.
“We decided to recruit young people from local recreational parks because we knew this is where we will find our targeted group,” he added.
The group that is recruited will receive training in playing the saxophone, marimba, drums, trumpets and keyboard.

It will also attend singing and dance classes and it is hoped it will have well-rounded artists by the time it leaves the foundation.
Mukangi added that after training, the recruits will join the band members to perform at different events in the area.
The field band is participating in the national music championships.
