MMC calls for child safety

Tsakani – Learners at Vuyani Primary School received a donation of PPE, uniforms and school shoes from the City of Ekurhuleni on Monday.
This was part of the wrap-up of the Child Protection Week initiative by the City in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education and Department of Community Safety.
MMC for Social Services Clr Nomadlozi Nkosi said the programme aimed to provide care, support and protection for children, including orphans and vulnerable children, and to promote the rights of children and improve their health status.

“Covid-19 has posed health, nutritional, environmental and safety risks for children due to the imposed restrictions, resulting in intermittent attendance of school by learners.
“This requires all relevant stakeholders to join hands in the fight against abuse and exploitation of children.
“During this period, government raises awareness on the role of individuals and society in protecting children, as well as promoting the rights and responsibilities of children,” he explained.
During the visit, the MMC interacted with the learners and encouraged them to report any abuse to the police or an adult.
He encouraged the learners to focus on their studies.
