Public warned not to fall for scam

The scammer want victims to pay to make their drunk driving cases disappear.

The Springs SAPS is warning the public about a scammer who is targeting people who have been charged with drunk driving.
Local police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said they have received two complaints from people who have been called by a man who claimed he could make their drunk driving cases disappear if they paid him between R6 000 and R10 000.

The scammer then says if the victims are willing to pay, they can meet at the Springs Magistrate’s Court, where the victims can hand over the money.
“If you are arrested and face charges of drunk driving, your docket goes to court while we wait for the blood test results.
“The people this scammer has targeted are from Duduza and Springs. We don’t condone his actions at all, as it is bribery. We are warning the public not to fall into this trap,” said Ramphora.

He added that calls from this man should be reported to the Springs Police Station.
At the time of publication, Ramphora said they had not been able to determine if the scammer works for the police, court or if he is an ordinary member of the public.
