Local music school celebrates freedom

“This is to bring hope to arts, cultural and heritage practitioners,” he said.

Tsakani – Ekurhuleni School of Music (EKSOM) celebrated South Africa’s freedom by hosting their annual celebration at Faranani Multi-purpose Centre last Friday.
The event was held under a Life Seems To Go On Without Effort When I Am Filled With Music (a quote from George Eliot) theme.
This is after the school was forced to close down for a year due to lockdown.

School director Tumelo Moeketsi said their students could not register for their external theory of music and practical examinations conducted with The Associated Board Of The Royal Schools Of Music (ABRSM) in London.
“The lockdown affected the art and creative sector negatively and left art practitioners without any means of earning a living.
“Fortunately, this year we were able to organise this event.
“This is to bring hope to arts, cultural and heritage practitioners,” he said.
The school paid tribute to musicians across the world for their contribution to the arts, culture and creatives sectors.

The main performers in the line-up included Mapule Komane, released as Lluvia M by Bhavani Entertainment (2021), Makonyana Tlaka, Vusi Majola and Thulasizwe “Cooper” Tenjekwayo.
The initiative seeks to showcase Ekurhuleni’s artistic talent and teach society about the cultures of the world.
They also aimed to promote social cohesion and nation-building through the use of music and creating job opportunities for local musicians and artists alike.
