‘Music is in me’

“I express myself through music and communicate with the individuals and community at large through music. Music is in me.”

Pakiso Maseremula (PK) is taking the eKasi rap world by storm and is ready to conquer the music industry.
PK has so far made a good name for himself as a local rapper, aspiring actor and model.
The 26-year-old musician was born and bred in Kwa-Thema.
He’s well known for his popular songs Sakanyuka, Izinja and Lomfana.
PK was inspired to start his music journey by a friend, and his love for the church.

“Growing up I’ve always been a church boy and my friend was a rapper. He helped me through the process of mastering the art of music and to write my own content,” he said.
The young musician recorded his first song in 2011, titled Control, which was followed by his first mixtape Unfinished, which featured nine songs.
“My first song in 2011 was a way of me introducing myself to the music industry and letting people know that there’s a new person in the game.
“I named my first mixtape Unfinished because I felt like I can do more and add to the mixtape later on after it was released,” said PK.

The local rapper has many achievements under his belt.

He explained that he partakes in other activities and sports, but he feels it is only through music that he can share messages.
“I express myself through music and communicate with the individuals and community at large through music. Music is in me,” he said.
PK indicated he has achieved a lot since he started his musical journey.
“My most memorable moments was when I performed alongside Mobb Deep and the late legendary Prodigy, may he continue to rest in peace,” said PK.

The Covid-19 pandemic affected everyone nationwide, including artists, and PK explained he was greatly affected as there were no more gigs to attend.
“I am slowly recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic and slowly bouncing back,” he said.
PK is currently working on his single Depression, which will be released soon.
“I’ve been battling with depression for the past few months, but I’m now in a better space and gathered enough strength to work on my single.
“Rap is a playground for most artists and I use it to address issues which society is going through.
“We are all faced with obstacles, sadness, loss, illnesses and death.
“We have to strive as human beings to gain more wisdom, kindness and compassion, we must be like the lotus flower and open each petal one by one.
“Everything will get better with time and I hope this new upcoming single will heal and encourage everyone,” concluded PK.
