Community bands together to help NPO

To ensure that one organisation continues in their efforts to uplift the community local school principal Clement Matebeta Sathekge donated 30 fleece blankets to the Tholuthando Community Centre.

Tsakani – Right from the start of the pandemic NPOs have seen an increase in demand for their services within the community.
To ensure that one organisation continues in their efforts to uplift the community, local school principal Clement Matebeta Sathekge donated 30 fleece blankets to the Tholuthando Community Centre.

The hand-over was attended by Miss Ekurhuleni finalist Thando Mdluli.
The donations were made on Monday to children aged three and four.
Sathekge, who is the principal of Buhlebemfundo Secondary School, said children are the future leaders of our country.
“As a leader, I understand that giving is part of being a leader.
“We have been working with the organisation as a school until it came to my attention that they could use additional assistance.

The NPO caters for the community at large through their daycare, feeding scheme, sanitary and clothes donations programmes.

“The work the organisation does helps glue our communities together.
“I believe this is the beginning of a good relationship,” he said.

Chairperson and founder Patricia Khumalo stated the centre has been operating since 2012.

“We assist people who are suffering from addictions, schoolchildren, pensioners and grandparents who are living with their grandchildren.
“We also provide daycare services for children whose parents cannot afford to pay for crèche.
“We are solely dependent on donations,” she said.
She explained some of their challenges include having their premises.
“We have been trying to get assistance in terms of getting our place and at the moment we are renting this space.
“We also have people who are taking chronic medication who depend on our feeding scheme.
“The problem is that we do not serve meals every day due to lack of sponsorships,” she explained.
Meals are distributed every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 1.30pm.
